Checking in

Oh, hey there!  It has been a while.  I have been absolutely horrible with budgeting time for this space.  However, I made a pact to myself to get it together, as many of you have been asking me where the posts have gone!  Therefore, I thought this first post could be some basic updates of what we have been up to the last month (and a half...oops!).

We finally joined the masses for Bike Santiago on Sundays.  I really can't imagine Sundays without this now.  Several streets in Santiago are closed off to cars on Sundays, so people can ride bicycles or run without any traffic obstruction.  The fresh air, exercise, and time together is a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.  We found a new market on the way as well, so we have more options for where to get our fresh and local produce!  It's a win-win!

Derek finally won me over and convinced me to join his gym.  So far my motivation levels have been pretty high, so I hope it continues.  I once saw a quote that it takes 21 days to make a habit, so I just need to push a couple more weeks!

One our coworkers and dear friends had their wedding last week.  It was absolutely beautiful.  I wish I would have brought a better camera than my iPhone 5S to capture the little details.  Being our first wedding in Chile, it was fun to compare the customs and traditions to those we have in the States.  We danced and celebrated the couple, and wish them all the best for their marriage!

The seasons finally changed here, so we have been enjoying the vast array of colors.  While the temperature hasn't dropped substantially, I can tell I'll be needing to transition to my fall/winter wardrobe soon.  However, this is the perfect time and weather for us to test out some of the parks we haven't yet visited!

With autumn in full swing, the school year is also coming along nicely.  We've adjusted to our new roles, and we are really getting to know our students, their learning styles, and routines.  I'm excited to share some more teaching posts and ideas in this space this year as well. (But, don't worry, it won't become a full blown education blog, as I want to keep it free to encompass all of our lifestyle!)

That's all for now!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Life Lately

Once again, I am so sorry about my long absences here.  We had a very busy two weeks getting ready for the first day of school.  I am happy to announce that we both survived the first week unscathed but quite exhausted!  So, this seems like the perfect time to let you all in on what's been happening with us lately.

A Little R & R One of our coworkers was kind enough to let us use her beach house in Las Cruces for just over a week!  It was some much needed relaxation and time away from our duties in Santiago.  Las Cruces is a quiet city of only 3,000 people living there year round, but when summer hits, over 10,000 tourists come in to experience the clean beaches.  We also took a short drive over to a nearby town to take a boat tour.  On our tour, we saw tons of wildlife and were lucky enough to get some pretty close shots!  So, Pam, if you are reading this, thank you once again for an amazing trip!

The Arts  We have been living here in Santiago for over a year, and it took us this long to finally make it to Bellas Artes Museum!  This is the national arts museum of Santiago, and we were lucky enough to go on a day that all the rooms were full with exhibits!  This was definitely a highlight of my summer break!

I will be sure to post more often now that the first week of school is over!  Things are starting to settle down for us, and we are getting back into our work routine.  What have you been up to lately?
