Last month, my family came down to visit us for the holidays. My uncle was generous enough to spring for us all to go to the South of Chile. There are many big name places in this area, but Frutillar is a little known city. It is actually more like a small village. We only knew about it, because all of our friends here in Chile told us we needed to stop. It is the city of music, and is home to the giant Teatro del Lago (pictured above). This theatre hosts several musical events throughout the year, and the biggest festival of all is coming up shortly!
What struck me most about this quaint little village was its German influence. It seemed more like we were exploring the German countryside rather than walking around in Chile. They had great little pastries and restaurants along every side street, so we definitely were not out of options. If you are vegetarian, the options are pretty scarce, but I did find some great food...and of course, desserts!
This is a relaxing place that is great for a day trip, and it happens to be one of the stops on the Lake Circuit road that goes all the way around the second largest lake in all of Chile. It is a must stop!
